QualityTime is operated as an unincorporated student project—it is not a separate company or legal entity. It is run on a volunteer basis by current and former Stanford University students, with advisors, former caregivers, and other collaborators as available. QualityTime is not a commercial product, and no individual volunteer, student, or collaborator is a personal guarantor of the service. Team membership may change over time. QualityTime is a web application that helps families stay meaningfully connected through storytelling, games, and shared activities. Originally developed at Stanford University after winning the Stanford Biodesign for Digital Health Competition, it is built by a team of students and former caregivers with the goal of supporting families around the world across the joy of aging.

QualityTime uses artificial intelligence (powered by OpenAI) to transcribe voice recordings, generate story prompts, facilitate voice conversations, and classify stories. You acknowledge that:
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but as a volunteer-run student project, we cannot guarantee the same level of data security as a commercial service. Anonymized, aggregated data from QualityTime may support research into cognitive wellness and healthy aging at a future time. Any formal research use would follow applicable ethical review processes. Individual stories and recordings will never be shared publicly or with researchers in identifiable form without your explicit consent.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. The Released Parties (defined below) do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW:
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the "Indemnified Parties": QualityTime and its operators; Stanford University and each of its schools, departments, and affiliates; and each of their respective trustees, officers, directors, faculty, employees, students, volunteers, agents, advisors, collaborators, and affiliates (without naming any individual). This indemnity covers any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from or related to: (a) your use of or access to the service, (b) your violation of these terms, (c) your violation of any rights of another party, (d) any content you submit through the service, or (e) any misrepresentation by you regarding authorization to create an account on behalf of another person.
You expressly acknowledge and agree that:
Your use of QualityTime is entirely voluntary. You may stop using the service at any time, skip any question or activity, or delete your account for any reason. There is no obligation to continue using the service.
We may update these terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes via the email address associated with your account. Continued use of the service after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree to the updated terms, you should stop using the service and may request deletion of your data.
Governing Law. These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws principles, regardless of your location.
Binding Arbitration. Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these terms or the service shall be resolved exclusively through final and binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, conducted in Santa Clara County, California or remotely at the arbitrator's discretion. The arbitrator's award shall be final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.
Class Action Waiver. YOU AGREE THAT ANY DISPUTE RESOLUTION PROCEEDINGS WILL BE CONDUCTED ONLY ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS AND NOT IN A CLASS, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. You waive any right to a jury trial.
Small Claims Exception. Either party may bring an individual action in small claims court in Santa Clara County, California, provided the claim falls within that court's jurisdictional limits.
Injunctive Relief. Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to prevent the actual or threatened infringement or misappropriation of intellectual property rights.
